2016 Candidates of interest on the November Ballot
There is still plenty of work left for progressives to do this election season. If we want to see legislation moved that we can support, we must work to flip the Senate and/or the House and make sure progressive candidates fill those seats. That is the only way to assure that our issues are heard in Washington. Turning out supporters of progressive Senate and House candidates will help make sure we elect Hillary Clinton and will give us some leverage with the executive branch. Think about doing some work for the candidates we’ve identified below who inspire you, using social media to let your friends know about your support, donating to their campaign, remote phone banking for them or actually going to work for them in their GOTV push. We are not asking you to support all of them but we are asking you to think about doing something for the ones you feel best mirror your views. You can find an issue page for each of them below. The list of suggested candidates started with contained all the candidates endorsed by Bernie Sanders, Progressive Democrats of America, Democracy for America, Progressive Change Campaign and Elizabeth Warren. The list emphasizes candidates running in competitive districts where we can elect a strong progressive.
Three progressive candidates running for Congress in California can use help in the general election. Doug Applegate is a strong contender to knock off Darrel Issa in Orange County. Wendy Reed is a long shot but her energy and enthusiasm may be enough to take down the number two Republican in the House (Kevin McCarthy). Boa Nguyen, Mayor of Garden Grove and Mariko Yamada are locked in races against Lou business Democrats.
