Here's a good message to send to your legislator:

Shared Sacrifice Essential in State Budget

As your constituent, I am very concerned about the state budget deficit. But the governor's latest proposal – a solution that's nearly two-thirds cuts – is simply wrong.

The governor's budget wouldn't just decimate the safety net for the poor, but it would hurt middle-class Californians too, by taking billions from our public schools, closing down 200 of our state parks and ending the Cal Grant program for high-achieving college students. It would stunt the state's economic recovery and put billions of federal dollars at risk.

As someone who lives in your district, I implore you to pass a budget that looks realistically at the services we all need and how to pay for them. That means including new revenue as part of a balanced solution. Both Governors Pete Wilson and Ronald Reagan raised new revenue to offset potentially devastating cuts when the economy soured. And neither of them faced such a deep budget crisis as California does now.

It's unconscionable to agree to deep cuts to the programs we all need without also considering how to raise revenue. I agree that we need to live within our means, but it's also critical that we continue to invest in California's future.

California remains one of the largest economies in the world. If we want our state to continue to lead in entrepreneurship and innovation, California must continue to invest in the vital programs that help build and sustain our middle class. Doing so requires passing a budget that includes new revenue along with cuts.

I urge you to vote for a budget that asks the business community and the wealthiest residents to join in the solution along with average Californians.

Sincerely,
Chris Finnie

Write the governor's chief of staff!

Clearly Schwarzenegger doesn't care what we think. But his chief of staff, Susan Kennedy, is reputed to be one of the more astute political operatives in California. She is also a Democrat.

So I got her email address from Eric Bauman and wrote her this email.I encourage all of you to do the same. Chris

susan.kennedy@gov.ca.gov

Dear Ms. Kennedy,
I'm writing to you because I've heard you're smarter than your boss. And I'm really hoping that's true. Because some of his budget ideas are downright boneheaded.

For example:
• If we cut public defenders, we must still provide legal representation for those who can't afford it. It will just cost taxpayers more. Home health care and family healthcare cuts are a similar case. Nursing homes and emergency rooms cost more than current
programs.
• If we close public parks, it will damage California's tourist industry--costing our struggling state economy billions. Estimates are that it will cost my county alone $720 million a year. In small rural areas like the one I live in, bounded by two state parks, most of our businesses will fail--leaving residents with little or no retail infrastructure. That will, in turn, hurt our already struggling
housing market.
• If we cut spending for transit and education, we will forfeit much of the federal money from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act. It appears the governor has not read this bill. But I have. All 407
pages of it. Many of the provisions for state funding require maintenance of prior spending levels. Since the governor has been counting on that money in the budget, our deficit will only grow as we fail to qualify for those funds.
• If we cut MediCal, we lose the federal matching funds. For many similar programs, these matching funds more than pay for the state outlay. So we'll actually be losing money by cutting them.

I could go on. But I hope you get the idea. I'm just a small business owner who was born and raised in California. I've lived here almost all my life, as has my grown son. He's just made an offer to buy his first house here.

I am outraged by what the Republican Party is proposing to do to my state. I am outraged by the lies they continue to tell. Nobel-prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz has already shown that states with
higher taxes have actually fared somewhat better during the latest recession. Polls show that businesses value state services. Figures prove that California does not charge higher taxes than most states.

I am not an economist. Nobody is going to nominate me for any prizes for economic thinking. But even I can tell this is crazy. That's why I'm one of the founders of fixthebudget.org

I will continue to fight for a balanced budget solution for my state. One that includes new revenues and eliminates big tax cuts for big corporations. I will continue to fight for a livable state for my son.
I will not be intimidated by the governor's bully tactics. I am not afraid of him. I am very afraid for the future of my state.

I hope you can talk some sense into him. I doubt he will listen to me.
Sincerely, Chris Finnie, Boulder Creek, CA

cheap Miami Dolphins jerseys has promoted Greg Mattison to the defensive coordinator.People always love the cheap Minnesota Vikings jerseys, with good reason, this is a team that ever since the days of Jim Kelly have been a scrappy little team that refused to give up and quit.
